Aye and Gauthier-Rat reach Montpellier semifinals

Montpellier, France, August 30, 2019 – France’s Quincy Aye and Arnaud Gauthier-Rat logged two victories on Friday to reach the semifinals of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Montpellier 1-star.

Aye and Gauthier-Rat started with a 2-0 (21-17, 21-13) win in the round of 12 against their compatriots Adrian Caravano and Romain Di Giantomasso.

In their quarterfinal match against Austria’s Moritz Fabian Kindl and Mathias Seiser, the Frenchmen started off slowly and conceded the opening set 23-21 to their rivals. They got their rhythm back, however, to win the second set 21-11, then sustained their momentum to follow through with a match win 15-9 in the final set.

Two Austrians pairs made it through to the final four round, as Florian Schnetzer/Laurenz Leitner and Arwin Kopschar/Michael Murauer delivered strong straight-set victories.

Schnetzer and Leitner defeated Thailand’s Nuttanon Inkiew and Sedtawat Padsawud 2-0 (21-19, 21-15).

Kopschar and Murauer have kept a strong pace since winning the tiebreaker in qualification. Their succeeding matches were completed in straight sets, including their quarterfinal match against England’s Javier and Joaquin Bello 2-0 (21-19, 21-14).
