Eight teams from seven countries complete Baden Open Main Draw

Baden, Austria, June 7, 2019 – The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour 1-Star Baden tournament started on Friday with the qualification round, where 16 men’s and 16 women’s teams fought under sunny weather conditions for a spot in the main draw.

The teams had to battle windy conditions in the afternoon that meant building rhythm and momentum was tricky in the 1,800-capacity Baden Stadium. It is the second year that the Austrian town has hosted a World Tour event and it runs from June 6 to June 10 with the winning teams claiming $7,500 in prize money.

Women qualifiers
Beata Vaida and Ioana-Alexandra Ordean (Romania), Nina Lovsin and Tajda Lovsin (Slovenia), Viktoryia Siakretava and Lizaveta Chabai (Belarus), Sarah Cools and Lisa Van Den Vonder (Belgium).

Men qualifiers
Alejandro Huerta and Cesar Menendez (Spain), Pavel Shustrov and Alexey Gusev (Russia), Petr Bakhnar and Yury Bogatov (Russia), Jakob Windisch and Samuele Cottafava (Italy).

There was bad news for the home fans with the news that Robin Seidl and Philipp Waller, who were seeded third, have had to withdraw due to a knee injury suffered by Seidl. Their place has been taken by fellow Austrians Alexander Huber and Christoph Dressler.
