Hsu and Wu endure tiebreakers to reach Satun main draw

 
Satun, Thailand, April 8, 2019 – Chinese Taipei’s Hsu Chen-Wei and Wu Shian-Shian had to endure two tiebreakers on Monday to reach the main draw of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Satun 1-star.



Hsu and Wu needed 58 minutes to get past Hungary’s Botond Ola and Bence Attila Streli 2-1 (24-22, 24-26, 15-9) in the first round of qualification. In the second round, they were up against compatriots Wang Chin-Ju and Hsieh Ya-Jen and battled hard to win 2-1 (22-20, 18-21, 17-15) and secure their place in the main draw.

Austrian pair Jakob Reiter and Simon Baldauf also needed to play a tie-break set against Russian duo Andrey Bolgov and Vladislav Ermilov to earn a spot in the next round with a 2-1 (23-21, 14-21, 17-15) victory. Earlier, they won 2-0 (21-17, 21-16) against Japan’s Koichi Nishimura and Daisuke Shibata.

Also advancing to the main draw are Russia’s Daniil Kuvichka and Anton Kislytsyn and Hungary’s Artur Hajos and Balazs Benko, who won their respective two matches in straight sets.

The Russians won against Norway’s Jorn Olav Gamlemoen and Christian Helland 2-0 (21-15, 21-19) and Kazakhstan’s Alexey Kuleshov and Artem Petrossyants 2-0 (22-20, 21-18), while the Hungarians defeated Canada’s Adam Thompson and Hugo Ross-Bonneau 2-0 (21-11, 24-22) and Kazakhstan’s Nurdos Aldash and Abdulmajid Mokhammad 2-0 (21-14, 21-15).
