News 11/04/2019 Russia and Japan men’s pairs, USA women’s duos dominate Langkawi qualifiers Langkawi, Malaysia, April 11, 2019 – Russia and Japan each qualified two men’s pairs, and the United States two women’s for the main draw of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour event in Langkawi on Thursday.In the men’s tournament, Japan’s Koichi Nishimura and Daisuke Shibata earned a bye in the first round and then prevailed 2-1 (21-18, 16-21, 15-11) against Norway’s Aleksander Sandlie Sorum and Jonas Tomter, while their compatriots Kensuke Shoji and Masato Kurasaka defeated Iran’s Alireza Aghajanighasab and Ahad Emamgolopourhangar 2-0 (21-16, 21-17) and Poland’s Adrian Sdebel and Piotr Ilewicz 2-0 (21-12, 21-14).In the other matches, Russian duo Daniil Kuvichka and Anton Kislytsyn eluded their New Zealand opponents Sam O’Dea and Johann Timmer in a tie-break 2-1 (21-12, 21-23, 20-18) before beating Canada’s Adam Thompson and Hugo Rosso-Bonneau in straight sets 2-0 (21-12, 21-10), while Andrey Bolgov/Vladislav Ermilov won their matches in straight sets against Norway’s Stian Opsahl and Christian Jorgensen Ruud 2-0 (21-13, 21-15) and Kazakhstan’s Alexandr Babichev and Yegor Dimitriyev 2-0 (23-21, 21-18).Battambang 1-star winners Lara Dykstra and Cassie House earned two wins in qualification to advance to the main draw. The United States pair first beat their compatriots Melissa Fuchs and Allison Spurrier 2-0 (21-17, 21-13) before defeating Russia’s Ekaterina Filina and Ekaterina Zhazhigina in a tie-break 2-1 (21-16, 19-21, 15-6).The Nourse twins showed a more determined performance by beating both their rivals in straight sets.
