Mohajer and Lovli rally to win tiebreaker for main draw spot

Montpellier, France, August 27, 2019 – The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Montpellier 1-star started on Tuesday with the qualification round, where pairs from Norway, England, Austria and the Netherlands progressed to the main draw.

Norway’s Sadegh Mohajer and Ruben Olai Lund Lovli were the first team to move into the main draw after fighting off Slovenia’s Andrej Grut and Matevz Berk in a three-setter. After losing the opening set, the Scandinavians came back strong to register a 2-1 (16-21, 22-20, 15-11) victory.

Issa Batrane, who played last year in Montpellier with a different partner, competed this time with 19-year-old Frederick Bialokoz. The newly formed England pair easily beat Italy’s Emanuele Labate and Lorenzo Panerati 2-0 (21-10, 21-7). The Italians tried to play a fast game but the Englishmen played solidly and consistently, especially in reception.

Despite a match point saved by Swiss pair Piero Muller and Tim Blum and a tiebreak, Austrian duo Arwin Kopschar and Michael Murauer emerged victorious (21-16, 22-20, 15-10).

The Netherlands’ Sven Vismans and Tom van Steenis ended the day with a 2-1 (21-16, 19-21, 15-5) triumph against the Czech Republic’s Martin Pavlovsky and Adam Stocek.
