Mol and Sorum aiming for more World Tour memories

Rome, Italy, September 7, 2019 – Anders Mol and Christian Sorum have spent the past two seasons hoovering up FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour titles and now they are aiming to crown another golden year by winning the Rome 2019 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Finals.

If the Norwegian duo top the podium it will be the second consecutive season in which they’ve won gold, having finished first at Hamburg 2018.

Their first World Tour gold came at the 2018 Gstaad 5-Star and they retained their title in the Swiss Alps this year. They also won the Vienna 5-Star for a second straight year, as well as retain their CEV European Beach Volleyball Championship title.

“Gstaad is always special,” Mol said. “Winning the cow bells, the cow bells are the best, I just love them and the beautiful city of Gstaad and the love for beach volleyball.

“We love to play there (Vienna) every year and you can’t not play good there because the fans are just cheering you on any how and on every ball and the atmosphere is just out of this world.”

They also picked up golds at the Tokyo 4-Star, which was the test event for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and 4-Star tournaments in Ostrava, Itapema and Jinjiang.

“A lot of Norwegian fans came up from Rio (to Itapema) and we went from silver last year,” Sorum said. “To win a gold in Brazil is always special. Ostrava was straight after China, so we were tired, but we managed to play some really good volleyball and to play against the home nation in the final was special.

“Tokyo is really special because there’s going to be the Olympics there next year. It was really fun to be there and really good to win the final and gold.”
