Daegu hosts third women's World Tour event

Daegu, Korea, November 15, 2018 - For the third-straight season, Daegu hosts a women's-only FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour event as Korea's fourth-largest city stages the first of two tournaments in the country on the 2018-2019 international calendar.

The US$5,000 Daegu Open will be played from July 11 to 14 with Ulsan staging the second Korean event from July 18 to 21. Prior to Daegu and Ulsan, Korea had staged FIVB World Tour tournaments in Pusan (1995, double gender.) and Seoul (2007-2013, women's only).

Located in south-eastern Korea about 80 km (50 miles) from the seacoast, near the Geumho River, Daegu was the site for the first FIVB World Tour gold medal won by either a men's or women's team from Japan when Miki Ishii/Megumi Murakami topped the women's podium in 2017 at the inaugural event.

Australians Phoebe Bell/Jessyka Ngauamo captured the second Daegu Open in 2018.

The top Korean player the past two years at the Daegu and Ulsan events has been Kim
Hyunji, who has competed in all four events in Ulsan and Daegu with a fifth and three ninths with three different partners. Kim's fifth place with Si Eun-Mi at the 2018 stop was the best-ever placement by any Korean men’s or women’s team at a FIVB World Tour event.
