Kou and Liu make quarterfinals after two wins

 
Satun, Thailand, April 9, 2019 – The second-seeded Kou Nai-Han and Liu Pi Hsin of Chinese Taipei recorded two straight-set wins on Tuesday to advance to the quarterfinal round of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Satun 1-star.



The Chinese Taipei pair started their day with a 2-0 (21-14, 21-15) win over Canadian duo Rian Lenarduzzi and Devon May, then routed the host nation’s Chanthira Khanok and Yodsaphat Pakham 2-0 (21-17, 21-18) to win Pool B.

Colombian sister tandem Claudia and Andrea Galindo reigned in Pool A as they logged a 2-0 (21-16, 21-19) win over New Zealand’s Francesca Kirwan and Olivia MacDonald and a 2-0 (21-16, 21-11) victory over top seeds Yukako Suzuki and Yui Nagata.

The third team to move to the quarterfinals with two straight-set wins were Ukraine’s Diana Lunina and Maryna Samoday, who outclassed Russia’s Ekaterina Filiina and Ekaterina Zhazhigina 2-0 (21-15, 21-16) and Hungary’s Dorottya Szabo and Dominika Hafra 2-0 (21-13, 21-16) in Pool D.

In Pool C, Vanuatu’s Miller Pata and Sherysyn Toko prevailed in two tie-break matches to move to the next round. The Vanuatu pair outlasted Russia’s Anastasiia Frolova and Aleksandra Ganenko 2-1 (19-21, 21-16, 15-11) and Australia’s Brittany Kendall and Stefanie Weiler 2-1 (21-18, 13-21, 14-16).
