Ljubljana, Slovenia, August 1, 2019 – Three Austrian teams - Florian Ertl/Johannes Kratz, Jakob Reiter/Simon Baldauf, and Maximilian Trummer/Michael Murauer – cruised to straight-set wins in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Ljubljana 1-star qualifiers on Friday to progress to the main draw.

After winning their respective matches in straight sets during the first round, Reiter/Baldauf and Trummer/Murauer also recorded straight-set victories against their opponents in the second round.

Their compatriots Ertl/Kratz went straight to the second round after a bye, as they showed great composure to beat Slovak duo Lubos Nemec and Patrik Pokopec 2-0 (23-21, 21-18).

The United States’ Timothy Brewster and Michael Boag upset the crowd in Crnuce by eliminating the home favourites Aleksander Dulai and Manuel Grünval 2-1 (21-13, 17-21, 15-10), before dominating South Africans Grant Goldschmidt and Leo Williams 2-0 (21-19, 21-17).

“We played really well today, tough three sets against the home country this morning and then played a really good match against South Africa,” Brewster commented. “I think it is important for us to focus on controlling our side of the net. We will just keep having fun and play as hard as we can.”
