Top two seeds to vie in Zhongwei semifinal

 
Zhongwei, China, August 24, 2019 – Top-seeded Wen Shuhui and Wang Jingzhe of China and second-seeded Chiyo Suzuki and Yurika Sakaguchi of Japan will vie in the semifinal of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Zhongwei 2-star, following their two victories on Saturday.



Wen and Wang sailed through the final four after beating compatriots Zhao Huimin and Jiang Li 2-0 (21-16, 21-13) in the round of 16 and Thailand’s Varapatsorn Radarong and Khanittha Hongpak 2-0 (21-11, 27-25) in the quarterfinals.

Chiyo and Sakaguchi, on the other hand, started with a straigh-set (23-21, 21-19) triumph over compatriots Akiko Hasegawa and Asuza Futami, then got out of their tight encounter with a 2-1 (21-18, 22-24, 15-9) victory against the Czech Republic’s Sara Olivova and Karolina Rehackova.

These two pairs will face each other in the first semifinal match at 9:00 local time.

The next semifinal match will feature another China-Japan matchup, where China’s Chen Chunxia and Zhu Lingdi and Japan’s Sayaka Mizoe and Miki Koshikawa are scheduled to play at 10:00.

In the round of 16 and the quarterfinals, Chen/Zhu and Mizoe/Ishii both registered straight-set victories in their respective round of 16 and quarterfinal fixtures.
