The inaugural €5,000 men's-only Oslo Open will be played from August 28 through September 1 and will be coordinated by the European Volleyball federation (CEV) in the Norwegian capital.

Since the start of the 2018-2019 season last August, the FIVB and the CEV have collaborated on five FIVB World Tour events in Hungary, France, Slovenia, Sweden and Turkey.  In addition to Norway, other 2018-2019 FIVB World Tour events coordinated by the CEV will be staged from June 2 through September 1 in Austria, Greece, Italy, Slovenia, Poland, Liechtenstein, Hungary, Belgium and France.

The last international beach volleyball event in Norway was staged in June 2016 at the CEV's Continental Cup finals in Stavanger to qualify teams for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Norway staged 15 FIVB World Tour events in Stavanger (1999-2011, 2014-15) and four in Kristiansand (2007-2010). The CEV also held its 2011 senior and 2014 under-18 continental championships in Kristiansand.

The Oslo Open will be one of two events played on the last weekend of August as France also hosts a men's-only tournament from August 27-September 1 in Montpellier.
