The event in Aydin will be a 2-star double gender event. The World Tour returns to the Turkish city of Aydin after it also held an event in 2018 featuring victories for Stefan Basta/Lazar Kolaric of Serbia in the men’s competition and Mailen Deliz/Leila Martinez of Cuba in the women’s. The three remaining events will all be ranked 1-star and feature both genders on the Cycladic Island of Ios, a women’s tournament in Alba Adriatica and a men’s tournament in Pinarella di Cervia, both locations on Italy’s Adriatic coast. Alba Adriatica also hosted a double gender event in 2005.

The four new events in Europe join as many as 18 other tournaments on the continent this season. Highlights of the 2018/2019 calendar include the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Hamburg, Germany from June 28 to July 7 and 5-star World Tour events in Gstaad, Switzerland from July 9 to 14 and Vienna, Austria from July 31 to August 4. The World Tour Finals will take place in Rome, Italy from September 4 to 8.

Other events in Europe include 4-star stops in the Czech Republic, Poland, Portugal and Russia and as many as six 1-star events in Sweden, Austria, Slovenia, Poland, Liechtenstein and Belgium, all announced earlier.

The FIVB’s 2018/2019 beach volleyball calendar began with tournaments in Siofok, Hungary and Montpellier, France in August 2018 and runs until the FIVB Beach Volleyball Olympic Qualification Tournament in China from September 18 to 22.

The next events on the World Tour are a 3-star double gender event in Sydney, Australia from March 6-10 and a 1-star men’s event in Kg Speu, Cambodia.

The FIVB and CEV are in ongoing negotiations to host additional tournaments in Israel, Hungary and France.
