Rubavu, Rwanda, August 24, 2019 – Top-seeded Japanese pair Shoji Kurasaka and Kensuke Shoji clinched the men’s gold medal in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Rubavu 1-star on Saturday.
Shoji and Kurasaka first defeated England’s brother tandem Javier and Joaquin Bello in the semifinals 2-0 (21-18, 21-17) before sealing their place in the top podium with a tie-break triumph against Denmark’s Nicolai Hovmann Overgaard and Jacob Cordua Stormly.
The Japanese pair made a spirited comeback in the last two sets after losing the opening set to the Danish duo at 21-12. Although the second and third sets were tightly contested, Shoji and Kurasaka managed to gain the two points to clinch the gold medal at 21-17 and 17-15, respectively.Quick links - Beach volleyball:

The Bello Brothers, however, got back on the winning track to secure the bronze medal, following their straight-set (21-18, 21-15) victory against Japan’s Hitoshi Murakami and Keisuke Shimizu.
