Thai tandem reaches Phnom Penh semifinals

 
Phnom Penh, Cambodia, February 23, 2019 – Thailand’s Tanarattha Udomchavee and Rumpaipruet Numwong rallied from a set down to beat the Czech Republic’s Martina Bonnerova and Martina Maixnerova 2-1 (22-20, 11-21, 11-15) to advance to the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Phnom Penh 2-star semifinals.



The Thai pair started with a 2-0 (21-18, 21-17) win against Chinese Taipei’s Kou Nai-Han and Liu Pi Hsin on Saturday morning before reaching their first quarterfinal as partners.

Udomchavee’s former partner Varapatsorn Radarong, who now plays with Khanittha Hongpak, lost 2-1 (24-26, 21-15, 16-14) to wild cards Chiyo Suzuki and Yurika Sakaguchi of Japan in their quarterfinal matchup.

In the other quarterfinal encounters, Amanda Dowdy and Corinne Quiggle, who also entered the tournament as wild cards, earned their semifinal spot by beating Canada’s Amanda Harnett and Marie-Christine Lapointe 2-1 (18-21, 21-9, 15-8), while Greece’s Vasiliki Arvaniti and Panagiota Karagkouni triumphed against the United States’ Caitlin Ledoux and Geena Urango 2-0 (21-12, 21-16).
