BeachVolley Vikings put on show in Oslo

Oslo, Norway, August 29, 2019 – Anders Mol and Christian Sorum, currently the world’s best beach volleyball pair, play on opposite sides of the net at home in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Oslo 1-star. On Thursday, they came up with respective victories at the start of the main draw tournament.

“We became seriously interested in beach volleyball during the World Tour events in Stavanger and we often see how other teams overperform when they play at home,” said Anders who is delighted to be playing a tournament on his home turf.

These two players are teamed-up with two of their country’s promising talents – Nils Ringoen and Markus Mol.

Anders and partner Ringoen, an up-and-coming 19-year-old player from Kristiansand, registered a 2-0 (21-15, 21-14) win over Austria’s Georg Kostler and Marian Klaffinger in Pool A.

Sorum also recorded a win in Pool B, together with Anders’ 17-year-old brother Markus. Sorum and the younger Mol rallied from a set down to win 2-1 (16-21, 27-25, 15-11) against Finland’s Pekka Piippo and Pyry Topio.

Kare, Mol and Sorum’s coach, believes that the event provides an opportunity for his younger players to gain experience in preparation for future events.

“We have started working towards the Olympic Games in 2024 and it is important to follow the progress of different players. This tournament is part of that progression,” Kare said.

“A tournament at home is what we have lacked in recent years. This means a lot for the players and for the recruitment of new talents.”

Meanwhile, Anders’ older brother Hendrik and his partner Mathias Berntsen also won against their Serbian opponents Damjan Pusonjic and Vukosin Rajkovic in straight sets (21-11, 21-15) in Pool C.

The first round of pool play was dominated by the Scandinavians, as Sweden’s David Ahman/Jonatan Hellvig, Denmark’s Morten Overgaard and Martin Trans Hansen and Mads Rosager/Jacob Brinck, and Norway’s Svein Solhaug/Jonas Tomter and Daniel Bergerud/Lars Retterholt all triumphed in straight sets.
