Prudel aiming for home glory

Malbork, Poland, July 31, 2019 – Mariusz Prudel will be one half of the host nation’s hopes for glory at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Malbork 1-Star event that runs from August 1- 4.

The 33-year-old Prudel, who played at the London 2012 and Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games, will be in tandem with Mikolaj Miszczuk for the second time on the World Tour and they will be out to improve on their performance at the 1-Star Baden tournament where they reached the quarterfinals.

It is the first time that Malbork in Poland’s north east is hosting a World Tour tournament and it is taking place in a 650-year-old castle. The winning team in Malbork will collect the €1,000 first-place prizes and claim 200 Tokyo 2020 Olympic points.

Belarus’ Aliaksandr Dziadkou and Pavel Piatrushka begin the tournament as first seeds having already won World Tour gold at the Gothenburg and Ljubljana 1-Star events.

Second seeds Denys Denysenko and Vladyslav Iemelianchyk of Ukraine are also after further success on the World Tour after they won gold at the Satun 1-Star event in Thailand in April.

Toms Smedins and Haralds Regza are seeded third and they will be chasing their first gold since they teamed up in June 2018. The Latvians won silver in Gothenburg this year and bronze in Porec, Croatia in 2018.
