Visakhapatnam, India, March 3, 2019 – The Czech Republic’s Martina Bonnerova and Martina Maixnerova concluded their FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Vizag Open campaign with a gold medal.
The Czech pair successfully kept their winning streak alive by ending their Japanese opponents Chiyo Suzuku and Yurika Sakaguchi’s undefeated run in the tournament.
They lost to their Asian counterparts in the opening set with only a two-point margin, but clawed their way back into the match to win the gold medal with a 2-1 (19-21, 21-18, 15-9) finish.
Bonnerova has won two gold medals and two silver medals, while Maixnerova earned her first ever World Tour gold at the Vizag Open.
Austria’s Nadine and Teresa Strauss conceded in the semifinal against Chiyo and Sakaguchi but pushed themselves to earn the bronze medal with a 2-0 (21-16, 21-18) win over Vanuatu’s Miller Pata and Sherysyn Toko.
The Strauss twins first played together in 2012 before reuniting this season. They are playing in their 11th World Tour tournament together and the bronze medal is their first of the 2018-2019 season.
