A small island in the central Philippines known for its resorts and beaches, Boracay replaced Manila in March as the host city for the country's second World Tour event.

At the inaugural FIVB event in the Philippines, Max-Jonas Karpa/Milan Sievers of Germany bested Petr Bakhnar/Taras Myskiv of Russia for the men's title with Switzerland's Gabriel Kissling/Michiel Zandbergen claiming the third spot on the podium by defeating Alejandro Huerta/Javier Huerta of Spain in the bronze medal match.

In the 2018 Manila women's competition, Ayumi Kusano/Takemi Nishibori of Japan topped the podium with Spain's Maria Carro/Paula Soria second and Paraguay's Erika Bobadilla/Michelle Valiente third. The bronze medal for Bobadilla and Valiente was the first-ever podium placement by a men's or women's team from Paraguay on the FIVB World Tour.

The Philippines' best finish in the inaugural Manila event was a fifth by Angeline Gervacio/Cherry Rondina in the women's competition. Four men's team from the Philippines tied for 13th at the 2018 Manila tournament.
