Ulsan event ends two-week stay in Korea

Ulsan, Korea, November 11, 2018 - In a city that houses the world's largest automobile assembly plant shipyard, Ulsan returns to the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour schedule for the third-straight season and hosts the second of two 2018-2019 events in Korea.

The US$5,000 women's-only Ulsan Open will be played from July 18 to 21 and follows the first Korean event from July 11 to 14 in Daegu. Prior to Ulsan and Daegu, Korea had staged FIVB World Tour stops in Pusan (1995, double gender.) and Seoul (2007-2013, women's only).

While Daegu was the site for the first FIVB World Tour title won by either a men's or women's team from Japan in 2017, Ulsan had the honour of rewarding the first international beach volleyball gold medal to a team from Chinese Taipei when Kou
Nai-Han/Liu Pi Hsin topped women's the podium.

The American team of Betsi Flint/Kelley Larsen captured the gold medal at the inaugural Ulsan event in 2017.

The top Korean player the past two years at the Daegu and Ulsan events has been Kim Hyunji, who has competed in all four events in Ulsan and Daegu with a fifth and three ninths with three different partners. Kim's fifth place with Si
Eun-Mi at the 2018 stop was the best-ever placement by any Korean men’s or women’s team at a FIVB World Tour event.
